Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay is not only a stalwart of Bengali literature but also one of the most popular writers in the country. His novels and short stories are astute reflections of Bengali society and its practices. Despite his writing being lucid and eloquent, his language can still be too complex for modern readers, particularly children. His stories, however, can be understood and enjoyed by people of all ages. With that in mind, we have abridged and translated these stories so they retain their message while being simpler and more accessible. Names and spellings have also been edited to fit the contemporary style. This way, the stories can maintain their essence and also reach a wider audience.
