Saadat Hasan Manto is best known as the rebel author who did not shy away from challenging the ills of society. Whether be it the Partition of India and Pakistan which massacred and divided humans along religious lines or sexual fantasies of women, Manto’s short stories caused quite a stir in literary circles. For the first time in Bengali literature, Sanchari Mukhopadhyay translated 25 of his popular short stories directly from Urdu, perfectly retaining their magical realism that deem these pieces as relevant today as it was over 60 years ago.
