His elder brother, Dr Abdul Gani, was a politician and former Indian railway minister. Abu Sayeed married Gouri Datta, daughter of Dhirendra Mohan Datta. After his marriage he published some of his essays in the name of Abu Sayeed Ayyub Datta.
